Geocentrum 2. Stronger, longer and better.

In the cycling we can find infinity of races in which we can compete: social races, brevets, criteriums, etc. but we really love those, which we know how they start but not how they finish. Races in which variables such as: strategy, team, orientation and fitness play a very important role and they are not only hold a certain number of laps in a circuit, reach a good position within the bunch or simply be the best climber.

As good defenders of the local product, we would like to talk about Geocentrum, a race that has just completed its second edition and is revolutionizing the current scene.

This race has been created the first year of Rueda, Festival Internacional de Cinema Ciclista. It was a part of the festival program and suitable for all type of cyclist.

Thereon Simón and Bernat, organizers of the race and two authentic cycling lovers, began to work to define what we today know as Geocentrum.

It is a competition which begins at the moment in which the participants have to organize their own team. A group of riders mixed and balanced in order to complete the hard and intense itinerary in the shortest time possible and get cross the finishing line all together.

All paths chosen each year are full of amazing surprises, mountain passes, fast areas, forest trail or, even, shortcuts that the more daring can win some minutes of advantage.

The riders must complete the checkpoints scattered throughout the entire itinerary as if it were a super-alleycat, and with the only indications of a track that the organization publishes a couple of days before and sense of orientation of the members. Every man for himself!

For this second edition, the Organization did not hesitate any moment in defining a demanding, varied itinerary, and that certainly did enjoy and suffer the participants equally.

77 participant spread over 17 teams and 13 lone wolves (individual riders), arrived from different parts of Spain and we even know that there was any outsider who didn’t want to lose the opportunity. The majority of the riders used road bikes, gravel or CX, but also there was some with mountain bikes, Brompton or even fixed gear (#motherofgod).

A total of 140 km, more than 2,500 m+ of gradient and 5 checkpoints where riders enjoyed the Maresme’s mountain chain, amazing roads, nice mountain paths , a surprise hill-climb scoring, and ended with a quick area where teamwork was essential for trimming seconds to the opponents.

The stories of the finishers on arrival were varied; faces of exhaustion, tiredness and, above all, euphoria and joy to get the finishing line of such special race like this one.

We hope that Geocentrum guys will carry on working to do things as well as they already did and the next edition continue to grow up and receive such positive feedback like currently.
