Three questions to the leaders of CRCSF (Italy)

Preparing the 3rd stage of CRCSF in Forli, thanks for the great work done by Alan Zanardi (Staff Manager CRCSF), an interview with Frank Martucci, Emanuele Poli and Samuele Cai, current Championship leaders.

FRANCESCO MARTUCCI (Back 2 Back)

1. Are you a pioneer in Italy of fixed gear and criteriums, what do you think of the wide diffusion of races like this?

My first criterium was the November 25, 2010, I had a green bike (converted road frame) wooden wheels, and cornering my pedals were hitting the pavement and I and a horrible gear relation (46×18). Started for fun more than anything else, I’ve always had a passion for cycling, and I haven’t not been slow to find my place in this world. The fixed gear is much like the world of action sports, was quite necessary to broadcast internationally. In our careers insanity tests BMX and Skate but with the requirement, the difficulty and the art of road bike meet together.

2. Let’s talk about the new team.

My new team was born to grow and make my ideas come true next to a friend like Raffaele, he has a lot of years of experience with juniors, like race director and as a bike mechanic. I always look of new things to stimulate me and thanks to your sponsors Oakley, Rapid Inside, Ncs and Xerpai that believe in your project, we have had the chance to make a strong and well organized team.

3. How important is the team in the crits?

I’ve raced a lot a races and I can say that the team is useful at “small” races. While in races like the RHC, even the strong teams can have at most 2/3 riders in the top positions, so I think the team is relatively. For example last year the first two of the final standings were two riders from different teams (Neil and Evan).

Raffaele and I are very prepared and we know very well, Filippo recently decided to incorporate in our team, we try to convey our experience.

EMANUELE POLI (Supernova)

1. Coming from the world of road cycling, what are in your different opinions between road and fixed gear races?

It’s basically always about cycling, the vehicle is the same :). What is certain is that you always have to go to harder and the more you squeeze the more it hurts, as in any type of competition. To race criteriums you have to be a little crazy, knowing sense paths and going all out… and for me it’s the best!

2. Your team Supernova is getting a foothold in the international races, your a lot of riders and your wanting to get good results … how can you manage them your relationship as teammates?

Almost all of them are young, and have always been in the world of cycling. What we try to do is to have fun at the races and training, but we get serious, we all work 100% to get a good result as a team… and if the team does well, it means that person also satisfies you. Not forgetting that this is not a job, it’s our fun!

3. On your victory in the second round of CRCS…

We played at home! Note that the circuit, right next to Deka, we know well. The victory was a perfect combo between teamwork and a touch of luck. My teammates and I have entrusted us starting the race with constant attacks, in a moment of indecision I decided to attack the group but missing many back to the finish line, I gave 110% to defend my take off… and ultimately, it went well!

SAMUELE CAI (Iride Squadra Corse)

1. Your One of the veterans and that always get a good result, how you manage to arrange between family, work and workouts?

Dedication and, of course, sacrifices of all those who are on my side. Ground training in the free time between family and work with them, have clearly focused on my workouts short and intense periods of time, about an hour and a half, but that does not mean a bit of fun, is the most effective way to train for me.

2. Iride Team one of the most successful and admired…

Iride is probably the first fixed gear team that has been established in Europe, is distinguished by the way they live races, competitions and after race “easy”. You can like it or not, but STAY TRUE our motto says it all! The basis of all is that there is a great friendship.

3. Is your experience useful to fight in these types of races or think it is better to have a road base?

Honestly I think both, in my case the MTB experience in tortuous and very fast races has helped me a lot.

VERSIONE ITALIANA

FRANCESCO MARTUCCI (Back 2 Back)

SAMUELE CAI (Iride Squadra Corse)
