Border Bash Bohemia 2024: International gravel event you should visit

In two weeks, the Border Bash Bohemia Camp will return for its sixth edition, offering a unique gravel camp experience. This event will take place from 5th to 8th September in the Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park, which spans across the Czech-German border, and we can assure you it will be an authentic experience. After five successful editions, including an expansion to Aragón, Spain, in 2023, it’s time to ignore borders for the sixth time in its original location.

What makes this event truly unique and worth visiting, besides its mystical location amidst deep forests and sandstone rocks, is the meticulously planned routes that involve crossing multiple borders. The atmosphere in the camp is very friendly, laid-back, and definitely not competitive. According to the event’s motto of breaking borders while riding, this commitment also holds true on a social level, as the camp brings together people from many countries to forge new friendships. There is a large community of German riders, but last time we also met participants from the Netherlands, Poland, the Baltic States, the US, Czechia, and more. Engaging in conversations while sharing a ride, exchanging stories of past adventures, or enjoying the evening by the warmth of a campfire are just a few examples of what you can expect at BBB 2024. It’s not a race, it’s not about performance—it’s about leaving with a great experience.

The event will cover three days of riding through the national park. Friday’s schedule has changed slightly from previous years; this time, the Posedla team will guide us on a route that leads near their new headquarters in the region, where we can make a brief visit to their facilities. Saturday is the main riding day, with three routes to choose from: Little Bash (79 km), The Bash (124 km), and Epic Bash (173 km). All routes are designed to converge at a (more or less) midpoint for a joint lunch by the Elbe river, where riders can regroup and decide which route to follow to finish the day.

Saturday night promises a spectacular light show during the Epic Blaze Bonfire, which will also be the moment to announce the winners of the Bohemian Border Bash Race (which runs parallel to the camp). Another ideal opportunity to socialize, chat over a beer, or enjoy the tunes of DJ Feinkosttwang.

Sunday wraps up the camp with a third ride, the Winzig Bash, a 46 km route through the heart of the Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park, visiting the most epic landscapes the region has to offer, finalizing the sixth edition.

One of the major changes to the event’s format is the location of the new base camp. This time, riders will be staying at the U Ferdinanda camp, near the village of Srbská Kamenice in Czechia, about 5 kilometers from the previous camp site. While in camp, participants can choose to stay in huts or their own tents. All food is provided for the entire duration of the camp.

That being said, access to the camp remains very similar to previous years—an adventure in itself. Ideally, if you arrive by train to Schöna or Bad Schandau on the German side, or to Děčín on the Czech side of the border, you can take one of the ferries to cross the Elbe river and arrive at the camp through the Hřensko forest, giving you a preview of the landscape you will encounter in the days ahead.

If this introduction convinces you to participate in the 2024 edition, registrations for the camp are open here.
