Marta Torà: And suddenly, Movistar Gravel Squad

A few months away from turning 30 years old, Marta Torà has just started a new season and is doing so in the best way she could have imagined. In 2025, the Movistar team confirmed her signing for its newly created Gravel Squad.

Marta admits she has no role models, or at least not in sports. However, on a personal level, she explains that her parents have been essential pillars to get to where she is today. Her father introduced her to sports, making her practice different disciplines from a young age. Her mother, whom she describes as a great fighter, knew how to transmit great life values and fight for what one dreams of. Without a doubt, this milestone in his sports career is a clear example of how he has achieved it.

Discipline, perseverance, and passion for sports

With a remarkable career in mountain biking, Marta explains that she has always been linked to sports. Throughout her life, she has practiced athletics, figure skating, tennis, and horse riding, among other things, before focusing on cycling. About fifteen years ago, she decided to commit heavily to this sport and began to train and compete as much as possible.

The cyclist from Molins de Rei (Barcelona) admits that when she likes something, she strives to do it as well as possible. At one point, seeing that she was investing many hours on the bike without significant improvements, she asked for help from a trainer who would help her with a better plan than the one she was following. From that moment on, she began to see a notable progression. The most important takeaway from that stage is that she learned a lot and adapted her daily routine to a lifestyle that has brought her to where she is today.

Alberto Losada currently manages her training plan, and she admits that working with him has been the most significant change in her performance as a cyclist. Marta explains that the former professional cyclist and co-owner of ProtourBCN brings his knowledge, calm, and, above all, racing experience. With his know-how and talent, Marta can take the pressure off her shoulders and approach things differently.

“Working with Alberto has taught me a lot about cycling and values. On a bike, one day you are in high spirits, and the next you are down, and he always knows how to act and deal with difficult situations.”

In addition to being her coach, their relationship goes even further. They share part of their racing calendar and often prepare races together, which is added value for her.

“We can prepare races that he will also do himself. This allows us to learn and share experiences, and it is not just a contractual relationship.”

Life in perfect balance

Marta combines her sports career with an intense professional life. An entrepreneur since she was young, she has worked as a rehabilitation therapist, fitness trainer, and pilates teacher, among other things. She reserves her mornings for training, and in the afternoons, she focuses on her profession, which she is passionate about. She stresses that organizing her day-to-day life is key to always having time for everything on her agenda.

She admits that she is delighted with her lifestyle and genuinely likes it. Marta defines herself as a person of routines and likes to have everything organized, and thanks to that, she can afford to do many things throughout the day and not lose her mind. This meticulous and strict planning is flawless as long as it is only up to her, but sometimes you need to combine your priorities with those of your partner, family, and friends. That is when your loved ones have to understand the level of commitment you have to what you want to achieve – this is how the Movistar Gravel Squad rider describes it to us.

When asked how she would define the current situation, Marta answers: “On a sporting level, I am on cloud nine. On a personal and professional level, I am constantly evolving.”

Movistar Gravel Squad

This is not the first season we have seen the Movistar Team’s colours in this discipline. Riders such as Carlos Verona, Iván Cortina, and Alejandro Valverde himself (since his retirement) have taken part in gravel races with positive outcomes.

In 2025, the team created a small subdivision called the Movistar Gravel Squad. Many World Tour teams ventured to be present at UCI Gravel events, and Movistar wanted to take this project further by materialising it.

The team comprises Alejandro Valverde, who has already spent some seasons focusing solely on this discipline, the amateur rider Carlos Cobos, and, as a female representative, the young Catalan cyclist.

When we discussed the signing with Marta, she couldn’t be happier or more motivated. She says her life hasn’t changed since then, beyond having more media coverage. She continues to focus on training hard and enjoying every moment and opportunity that comes her way. She also explains that she is not looking for her life to change radically because that would mean giving up work and doing what she is also passionate about professionally. She admits that she is in an excellent position and feels very fortunate to be able to live this incredible experience.

Needless to say, it must be a pleasure to race alongside a cyclist of Alejandro’s level. As Marta tells us, a true one-of-a-kind, experienced like no other, and a great teammate.

“Joining a team like Movistar is a dream, but I would love to keep racing on a bike while maintaining impeccable mental health.” – In response to whether he has any dreams left to fulfill.

A season full of motivation

After her time with the official ProtourBCN team and an intense year at a competitive level, she begins a new season full of enthusiasm and energy. Although the rider explained that the team had not set any big racing goals for her, she is confident she will have a good season.

Among her goals is to revalidate the Spanish Gravel Cup, which she won in 2024. She would also like to have a chance at the Spanish Championship, which this year takes place on a date that better fits her calendar. She hopes to have a good result.

At an international level, she says she has no marked dates on the calendar. Even so, she explained that her experience at the World Championship in Belgium in October 2024 was unforgettable and that she would not mind repeating it.

“In terms of performance, I still have room for improvement. I’m better than ever, but I still have three or four years of continuous progress ahead. This keeps my motivation high and the flame burning. I’m the best version of myself.”

Talking to Marta about women’s gravel, we agreed that the level is rising rapidly and that there are more competitive and better-prepared rivals every day. She loves that, and it gives her extra motivation.
