At The Traka, we spotted a selection of riders wearing some glowing orange hydration vests. Later, we realized that all of them were riders supported by POC, so it was clear which brand was behind the production of those items. A few weeks later, the Swedish brand launches the product as part of a new collection with Team Amani, designed and developed in collaboration with the riders of the team.
Ahead of a new edition of the Migration Gravel Race, taking place from June 17th – 20th, POC and Team Amani are releasing a set of products that will make the East African riders stand out even more. Although we have already checked firsthand how strong they are, the new custom POC Cytal helmet with personally chosen decals by each rider, will provide them with the extra motivation needed to turn a good result into the big win against some of the best gravel racers in the world.
The Team Amani edition also includes the aforementioned fluorescent Ultra Vest, a first in POC’s portfolio. The model we will be able to spot in Kenya has a big Team Amani logo on the back, but customers can choose between the team edition and a standard one.
Regarding the color choice, POC and Team Amani explain that the brown, with its closeness to the land, was a natural choice, as was the orange, which conveys the energy and positivity of the team as a whole. Together, it’s a combination that, like the team, brings a different perspective to gravel racing.
“The Team Amani edition perfectly captures their spirit — a team proud of their roots and fuelled by incredible energy and fire.” – Derek Bouchard-Hall, POC CEO.
POC Cytal
We have tested the Cytal Carbon on bikepacking trips and raced with it at the Gravel World Championships, proving the capabilities of a helmet packed with innovative features. The Cytal uses all the pioneering aerodynamic and ventilation knowledge developed from the carbon version and adds a refined balance and enhanced safety. Protection is, of course, a priority, and proof of it is the five-star rating given by Virginia Tech. In March 2025, the POC Cytal was ranked as the number one road helmet and number three in all helmets tested.
The shape of the Cytal stands out when compared with the other helmets in the brand’s portfolio, but the change is backed by its enhanced aerodynamics and ventilation. The frontal holes capture and lead air through the helmet instead of around it, significantly reducing the high-pressure zone at the front of the helmet and improving a rider’s aerodynamic profile. The integrated wing increases air velocity and facilitates cooling,
POC Ultra Vest
Racing Migration Gravel Race without a hydration vest is a no-go. POC was aware of the need and made sure Team Amani riders could stay hydrated during the long, hot stages in the Masai Mara. The vest has a pocket to store a 2L water bladder, and several easily reachable pockets in the front and under the arms to store soft flasks, food, and tools. There is also an open pocket in the rear intended to pack any extra layer needed. The Ultra Vest fits nicely with three attachment points and elastic adjusters.
Beyond the races in East Africa, this hydration vest is a necessary item for long-day or multi-day events and adventures, with a color that makes it easy for others to see you in all conditions. If among the mandatory items in your next ultradistance race is a reflective vest, tell them you are riding with the new POC Ultra Vest and you will be good to go.
