We still remember the first time we came across a Fara bike. It was at The Service Course Girona, as part of their rental bike fleet, many years ago. They had just arrived in the Catalan capital, and hardly anyone knew the brand.
Today, almost ten years after its creation, the Norwegian brand presents the fourth generation of its gravel model, the Fara Gr4. A very complete bike, optimized to be truly fast in the most demanding races, and featuring notable improvements for its use in long-distance adventures as well.
In recent years, the brand has been present in the world’s most important gravel races and has achieved remarkable results. Fara’s growing trend and its close collaboration with the riders supported by the brand have helped achieve what we know today as the Gr4.
The frame has been improved in terms of materials and carbon distribution, a mix of High Modulus Torayca T1000 and M40X fibers, which reduces the weight by over 200 grams compared to the previous model, leaving it at 970 grams. In addition to the lightness, they have achieved a very successful balance in terms of stability and comfort.
Following the review of the improvements to the Fara Gr4, we now focus on the generous wheel clearance they have given this model, allowing the installation of tires up to 57mm (2.2″). In this way, the brand aims to offer the widest possible range of tire and rim combinations to achieve the fastest and most comfortable setups without the frame being a bottleneck.
At Fara, they’ve always strived to forge their own path and try to differentiate themselves from other brands, whether they succeed or fail. But we believe their Fara Modular Cockpit is a remarkable innovation and a great success. A handlebar specifically designed with the rider’s ergonomics and adaptability in mind, as well as the course they face.
The flare between the top and bottom can vary between 8 and 12 degrees depending on the handlebar size. Additionally, thanks to the flat interface design between the handlebar and the stem, it allows for a 10 mm longitudinal adjustment, offering the possibility of adapting the handlebar grip for a more aerodynamic or, conversely, more comfortable position. As for accessories, the cockpit is ready to accommodate Fara’s signature aerobars, or a mount adaptable to any brand of bike computer.
In terms of builds, the brand offers everything from the SRAM XPLR range, from its top-of-the-line model, which comes with the RED, to more affordable options with the new Force and Rival models. The frame is designed for T47 bottom brackets and, of course, already includes UDH compatibility.
Last but not least, the frame features its own internal storage system and a wide variety of mounts for cargo bags, bottle cages, and fenders.
