Lazer VeloVox: music, calls, and communication while riding

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lazer push hard to innovate and explore new ways to set itself apart from its competitors. A clear example was the 2022 launch of KinetiCore, a revolutionary and promising new system designed to reduce rotational impact in the event of an accident.

Today, the company launches the Lazer VeloVox, a product developed in collaboration with Cardo, a leader in wireless communication technology, which opens the door to a new way of experiencing cycling that we may not have been familiar with until now. Once again, we see the German brand taking risks to enhance its product range and improve the user experience.

VeloVox at a glance

The VeloVox is a helmet-mounted device that lets riders listen to music, make phone calls, and—most notably—maintain uninterrupted communication with a group of up to 30 users. The first two functions need little explanation, as they are already common in other devices. The standout feature, however, is group communication. Users can create a group by selecting who will join (participants must also use the Lazer VeloVox), enabling fluid, ongoing conversations while riding. This opens up new possibilities, such as keeping the same discussion alive among all riders throughout a ride or allowing a guide to communicate with an entire group at once.

The system uses an open-ear design: the speakers are attached to the helmet’s side straps rather than covering the ears. This positions the units—one on each side—close enough to the ears for clear listening while still allowing riders to remain aware of surrounding sounds, an important safety factor. In addition, a noise-canceling algorithm helps ensure consistently good audio quality.

The device itself includes buttons on both units to control music playback and communication. The VeloVox is also compatible with the Shimano Di2 system, allowing riders to operate it without taking their hands off the handlebars—another clear advantage. Communication groups are managed via the Cardo Connect App, available for both Android and iOS, which makes setup and control straightforward.

Finally, the Lazer VeloVox offers up to 11 hours of battery life, is water-resistant (sufficient for use on rainy days), and weighs around 19 grams per unit.
