Repete Cycles, the Czech frame manufacturer with a reputation for excellent frame design, has unveiled its latest model, the R3: Reason. It represents a significant step forward in the world of steel bikes, as this new release seamlessly blends aesthetics and functionality to offer a promising alternative for cycling enthusiasts. Featuring internal cable routing, tire clearance of up to 35mm, and distinctive frame elements, the Repete R3: Reason is poised to be a modern steel performance machine.
Earlier this year we had the opportunity to visit the Repete Cycles factory, gaining insights into their approach to frame manufacturing and design. Today, we take a closer look at their new release, the R3: Reason.
A journey of dedication
Robin Fišer, co-Founder of Repete, shares the evolution of their vision leading up to the creation of the R3: Reason. “When we started making frames, we had a desire to create modern performance road steel bikes,” Fišer elaborated.

Handcrafted in their Prague-based factory, Repete collaborates with local production experts to incorporate unique elements, including cast dropouts, CNC machined head tubes, and 3D segments using materials like steel and nylon. It allows them to oversee the production process and ensure their high quality level.
An evolution in steel bike design
The R3: Reason is Repete’s first new frame in four years, following the successful release of the R2: Reason road bike and R2: Verne gravel bike in 2019. Known for their award-winning frames, including the Best Road Bike award at NAHBS in 2015, Repete has taken a substantial stride with the R3: Reason, aiming to narrow the gap between carbon performance bikes and custom steel frames, appealing to a wide spectrum of cycling enthusiasts.
Some of Repete’s commitment to quality and innovation comprise the core material of the frame tubes Columbus Spirit HSS Steel, and a carbon ENVE Road In-Route Fork. This makes the frameset completely compatible with internal routing for electronic shifting (eTap, EPS, and Di2 Compatible), which is matched with a IS52/28.6 – IS52/40 headset mounted on a tapered 1 1/8″ – 1 1/2″head tube. The frame is designed for 12mm through axles, 100×22 and 142×12 mm at the front and the rear respectively, with replaceable CNC machined dropouts for the latter. The bottom bracket shell complies with T47 – 68mm standards.
Key features for enhanced performance and aesthetics
The R3: Reason isn’t just about aesthetics; it incorporates innovative features to enhance the overall riding experience. The main ones include the aforementioned tapered head tube, which provides maximum torsional rigidity and an extended frame life, and the internal routing for integrating brake hoses in the frame and achieving a streamlined look compatible with electronic shifting systems. This is all possible thanks to Columbus Spirit HSS tubes, made out of a steel alloy with high tensile strength and durability.
A nice-to-have feature is the integrated seatpost clamp, which has been 3D-printed in stainless steel for secure seatpost clamping. This is matched by stainless steel dropouts fabricated using advanced steel investment casting technology. In this line, the front derailleur mount has been CNC machined and it is easily replaceable for optimal water bottle placement.
Repete takes pride in the art of bike painting, ensuring that each frame is not just a technological marvel but also a visual delight. The frames are hand-painted, and their custom color options range from pastels to eye-catching pearlescents.
